Be Diligent

I have set specific goals for myself that I have implemented into a daily schedule. Be in bed by 11:00, get up by 7:00, read my scriptures, have a nutritious breakfast, and go for a run. This morning I woke up on time, read my scriptures and then decided to have cheesecake for breakfast and blog instead of run. Wow...I feel so healthy. :)

This morning Michael and I read an article from the church Ensign magazine that focused on being diligent and consistent (August 2010, p. 55). In my 22 years of earthly experience I am truly beginning to believe that this may be the ultimate quest of life. Because really, I can only think of 1 person that I know of being truly diligent and consistent in all things, which is our Savior Jesus Christ. Even in Gethsemane he consistently was obedient to the Father.

When I think of consistency my mind quickly turns to Elder Bednar's talk "More Diligent and Concerned at Home." In that talk he uses the word "consistent" 39 times.

He says "
As disciples of the Savior, we are not merely striving to know more; rather, we need to consistently do more of what we know is right and become better. Many of the Savior’s harshest rebukes were directed to hypocrites. Jesus warned His disciples concerning the scribes and Pharisees: “Do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not” (Matthew 23:3).

I know that me, by myself am weak. I do know through experience that through prayer, faith, and the enabling power of the atonement that I can be strengthened to be diligent and consistent and overcome the natural man.

  2. What a great blog! I will visit it often! I laughed when you said you had cheesecake for breakfast and skipped the run. Oh how I can relate to that! In fact I'm reading this blog instead of cleaning all the mirrors in the house...you guys impress me so much. I hope your time in Provo is awesome!
