Gratitude

I'm sure we've all heard of the phrase "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade" or been asked the question, "Do you see the glass as half empty or half full?" I remember growing up when I heard someone's answer to that question, "I don't really care if it's half empty or full, I'm just glad to have a glass!"

President Monson has encouraged us to develop an "attitude of gratitude” and has said “This is a wonderful time to be living here on earth. Our opportunities are limitless. While there are some things wrong in the world today, there are many things right, such as teachers who teach, ministers who minister, marriages that make it, parents who sacrifice, and friends who help.

We can lift ourselves, and others as well, when we refuse to remain in the realm of negative thought and cultivate within our hearts an attitude of gratitude. If ingratitude be numbered among the serious sins, then gratitude takes its place among the noblest of virtues.” (Thomas S. Monson, “An Attitude of Gratitude,” Ensign, Feb 2000)

Even on “bad days” I have so much to be grateful for. I have the gospel in my life, a husband that I love, family and friends who care, a country where I’m free, health and strength to perform that which is required, to be financially stable, obtaining an education, a reliable mode of transportation, food, clothes, and the list could go on and on!
